Good morning, dear readers:
If you live somewhere that observes Daylight Saving’s Time, I hope you enjoyed the extra hour of sleep last night! If not, all good! I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend, regardless of where you are.
As for me? I’m still polishing up the next issue of Game & Word, and I’ve got a new podcast episode in the works. Alas, despite the extra hour of work time overnight, it’s still not ready for prime time. So I’ve decided to push it back until next week.
I appreciate your patience—and I promise, it’ll be worth the wait!
In the meantime, I wanted to let you in on some exciting news. I’ve added a brand new feature to my Substack publication:
Game & Word subscriber chat!
This is a conversation space in the Substack app that I set up exclusively for my subscribers — kind of like a group chat or live hangout. I’ll post short prompts, thoughts, and updates that come my way, and you can jump into the discussion by replying at any time. There will be free and paid chats/threads, and I’ve got a few ideas swirling around. Among them:
Weekly chats on the most recent issue’s topics;
Watch parties for major gaming events (Nintendo Directs, trailer reveals, The Game Awards, Games Done Quick, GDC, etc);
Private Q&As with podcast guests;
Candid AMAs with me;
LIVE podcast episodes;
Gaming livestreams;
Pretty much the best way to reach me directly.
Basically, it’s a) everything that used to make Twitter fun, and b) none of the things that made—and continue to make—Twitter the toxic cesspool of digital detritus, social putrefaction, and spiritual debasement that it is today.
To join the Game & Word subscriber chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app (messages are sent via the app, not email), then turn on push notifications so you don’t miss a chance to join the conversation as it happens (don’t worry, it’s really easy to turn off notifications if a thread ever gets too lively for you).
(NOTE: Obviously, you need to be a subscriber (free or paid) to participate in the subscriber chat. If you’ve yet to subscribe, just tap/click the following button:
Subscribed? Good! Just follow the instructions below.)
How to Join the Chat
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Chat is only on iOS for now, but will also hit the Android app soon.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat(s) inside.
That’s it! Jump into the thread with the Game & Word logo on the left, say hi, drop some wisdom, stay awhile, and listen. If you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
I’ve already started my first chat thread, so come on over and say hello!
The next issue will drop next Sunday. In the meantime, I hope to see you in the chat!
Cheers,
~Jay
